Effect of health outcome on economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa: a system generalized method of moment approach

Purpose Some progress have been made over time in improving health conditions Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). There are, however, contradicting reports on the relationship between outcomes and economic growth region. The paper aimed at assessing effect of outcome SSA. Design/methodology/approach Data for 41 countries from 2000 to 2018 were obtained WDI WGI analyzed using system generalized method moment (sGMM) which is appropriate present scenario. AR(1) AR(2) tests used assess validity model while Sargan Hansen adopted examine instrumental variables. robustness estimation was confirmed pooled OLS fixed regression. Findings Health (proxied by life expectancy), lagged GDP per capita, capital formation, labor force (LF), expenditure (HE), foreign direct investment (FDI) trade openness (TOP) significantly affected emphasizing importance process serial correlation Sargan/Hansen estimated variables respectively. Robustness GMM results established results. Social implications Improvement national possibly through widespread adoption National Insurance, increase government spending healthcare alongside increased beneficial ease doing business facilitate recommended enhance. Originality/value study up-to-date data with methodology.
